Well, its the beginning of a new year and once again the anniversary of Cameron’s death. Her “Heaven Day” is January 19– and this will be the 2nd anniversary. Pray for our family as we struggle through this difficulty time of memories and grief.

We have lots of new books and Derrick has sent out many parcels recently. The lucky recipients are mostly shelters and schools around the state. These include Benton County Sunshiine School, Benton County Women’s Shelter, Elizabeth Richardson Center, EOA Children’s House, NW AR Children’s Shelter, Helen R. Walton Children’s Center in Bentonville, and Kid’s First in Fort Smith. We hope these children enjoy the books that you have shared with us, and we in turn with them through the inspiration of Cameron.

We also were featured in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette this past weekend. The new article is available for viewing through a link above on this page.

Just like your family, ours has been very busy these last few weeks. In addition to the holiday festivities, it is so busy at work. There are lots of sick children to keep my days at the office full. I have anxiety that builds up as I deal with all the routine things about this time of year, plus my loss and grief over Cameron not being here.

We are in the throws of a book drive here in NW Arkansas. We have made a really great group of Christian friends who are helping us. These folks have joined with us to seek the collection of books all around our community. Also, a good friend of mine is having her guests donate books at her Christmas party this Friday night. It is just such a blessing to be surrounded by such caring friends.

Derrick is busy sending books to shelters and child care centers. I can’t even keep up with him, but will post the names of the recipients when I have more time. God bless you and your family this Christmas. Remember to read together as a family. Remember the baby we are celebrating. It is through the love and sacrifice of Jesus that we are given the gift of eternal life.

We recently recieved books from Gail Gray in Frisco,Texas, Marti Wilson in Maumelle, AR; Josie Simpson from Houston, AR; Leigh Gruggett from Franklin, TN; and Kristi Hinton from Washington, IL. Kristi collected books from a group of Mom’s in her area. We are just so thrilled to get these great children’s books from around the country!

Derrick just sent out several shipments of books. These went to First Baptist Church– King’s Kids Preschool Program in McAlester, OK; Jefferson Elementary School in McAlester, OK; Puterbaugh Elementary School in McAlester, OK; William Gay Elementary School in McAlester, OK; Lakewood Christian Mother’s Day Out in McAlester, OK; The Women’s Shelter in Newport, AR; Battered Women’s Sanctuary in Harrison, AR; and Safe Place Shelter in Morrilton, AR. We know that these places appreciate and need children’s books. It is so great to be able to provide the books in memory of our sweet baby girl.

Remember to request books on-line if you know of a place that needs children’s books– schools, clinics, shelters, etc… There is now a tab to request books at the top of the page. Just fill out the request form and we’ll get back in touch with you! Thanks to all our visitors and friends!

On Tuesday I went to a Community Clinic in Springdale, AR that provides medical care for the underserved. It is a ministry of the St. Francis House. I took quite a few books. This clinic really encourages reading to young children. About 1/2 of the patients are Hispanic, so if anyone wants to donate books for small children in Spanish that would be great! Keep those books coming.

I want everyone to know that Derrick has worked very hard this past week to send out books. Every time I come home he is on the phone or has a new stack of books ready to send. He has sent to children’s shelters, child care centers, juvenile detention centers, and clinics. I am going to have to make him enter a list of all the places he has sent or delivered books. I am so proud and I think he is really getting in to this! Keep the books coming so he can stay busy. Cameron would be pleased with her Daddy! Love, Susan

For Christmas in 2006, the year Cameron died, our family presented us with a large number of books. We didn’t know that they had been collecting children’s books for us. It started out as an effort to supply children’s books for my examination rooms in my pediatric office. However by the time the books had all been received, there were well over 200 of them. We were amazed at the generosity and compassion of others. So many of our friends and family, as well as people who didn’t know us but were touched by our tragedy, wanted to do something for Cameron. The sight of all those beautiful books was incredible. Each book had been labled with the name of the person or family who had donated it. It also listed their hometown. We found that we had received books from over ten different states and all parts of our home state of Arkansas. On the one year anniversary of Cameron’s death, the book club made its first donation. Our family– myself, my husband, our two living daughters, and my mom and dad– had a full day of handing out books. We started by mailing out eight parcels of books to schools, hospitals, and clinics who had some connection to Cameron. In addition we hand delivered books to six places in the Fayetteville area. Pictures from this day are available to view in the photos section. Most of the institutions that received books from Cameron have sent us books in return. This is a wonderful way to keep the book club alive. Now we have more books to donate to those in need. If you or someone you know is in need of children’s books, please contact us. Cameron would love to share her books with you. Also if you want to donate, check out the donate section of this site! Thanks– Susan
