Cameron’s Amazing Book Club

Share in the legacy of the joy of reading…

Purpose

Welcome to the website honoring Cameron Averitt Bobbitt.  Cameron Averitt BobbittCameron was an amazing little girl who died on January 19, 2006. She was truly one of the most precious people to ever walk this earth.  As her parents, we will never be able to express the loss we feel now that Cameron is gone.

Even though Cameron was only five years old when she died, she loved to read books and share them with others. In December 2006, the family and friends of Cameron started a book club in her honor.  This book club was inspired by her grandmother, who is a reading specialist.

We initially received over 200 books just by word of mouth.  On the one year anniversary of Cameron’s death, we personally donated many of these books to schools, hospitals, libraries, and medical clinics. Many people from places that received books collected new books and sent them to us.  This has allowed us to continue to provide books for children who otherwise might not have them.  It is our hope that in receiving these books, children will share in the legacy of the joy of reading the way that Cameron did.

If you would like to help continue the book club, you are welcome to participate. Please purchase a book appropriate for a child of any age and send it directly to Cameron’s parents, Susan Averitt and Derrick Bobbitt.

If you or someone you know needs children’s books, please let us know.  We would love to provide books to schools, clinics, churches, or other organizations that involve children.  Reading with children is a way to help them learn to read, discover lessons about life, and feel loved.

Thank you so much for your interest in the book club. Enjoy your reading!

Sincerely,

Susan and Derrick Bobbitt

May 13, Cameron’s Birthday

May 13th, 2009 by susanaveritt

Today is Cameron’s birthday. She is not here to celebrate it. She was born in the year 2000, so it is always easy to remember how old she would have been. 9 this year. Wow. A 9 year old. That sounds so old.
The last birthday party we got to celebrate with Cameron was a princess party. All her little friends came over dressed as their favorite princesses. We had little Snowwhites and Cinderellas, Tinkerbelles, and Sleeping Beauties! They were all so precious. Cameron would not wear her princess costume. In fact, we had several and she wouldn’t wear any of them. She said they all itched. I was irritated with her. Here we had all these little princesses and she was supposed to be the head princess, but she wouldn’t dress the part. She wore her Easter dress– pink and frilly. She was my little princess, anyway!
Today, I don’t know what kind of party she would want. It is a beautiful day. The weather always cooperated for us on Cam’s bdays. She was always happy, and appreciative. I wish she were here. I miss her…
Today we will plant our little garden outback. My parents are coming over to help. I’ve got to take Kennedy and Brooklynn to dance recital practice first. And then we’ll get started. It won’t look like much at first because the tree and plants I ordered are dormant. That means that don’t really look like plants and trees right now, but should in a few months. This is a new experience for me, so we’ll see. Keep your fingers crossed that it turns out!
We’ll be sending balloons to Cameron at sunset. It’s the only way I know to send her anything that seems to head in the right direction. She is my little angel now. God has her. I ache for her. I love my baby. Happy Birthday in Heaven.
Love, Mama
